CHAPTER SIX

“So, uh, Beth? Would you like to come back to our apartment?” Trevor asked hopefully.

“You two live together?” I questioned, pretending to be surprised. My head was spinning, but I didn’t want them to know I’d been eavesdropping on their conversation.

“Yeah, we do,” Lance nodded, “and for the most part we get along good.”

“Well, I…” I shook my head. This was all happening so fast, and was so confusing. “I think I’m going to get going. I just don’t feel all that well.” I needed time to think things through. It bothered me that the two felt they could share me without even consulting me. Who did these shifters think they were?

“Oh…” Trevor’s voice sounded surprised. “I…we thought you were having a good time.”

“I was…I mean, I am…I just need some space.” I reached for my handbag.

“We’ll walk you to your car then,” Lance frowned, “if that’s really what you want.”

I raised my hand. “No guys. Please finish your beer.” I pointed towards the frosty pitcher halfway filled with dark lager on the table. “I’ll see myself out.” As I got up to leave, the two men started to stand, but I waved them back down. “Please…just let me go.”

“Beth, we…”

“Lance…Trevor…please…just let me go and clear my head.”

As the men finally backed down, I headed towards the door. What the heck was going on? I went from having no man in my life, to having two great men to choose from, and now these two men had decided to share me without my consent. This was sheer craziness.

As I passed by the bar, I stopped dead in my tracks. Diane and Sandy, dressed to the nines, were sitting just a few feet away. Though it was a casual restaurant, Sandy had on a short, low cut baby blue dress and six inch heels. Diane was wearing a tight, body hugging white dress with gold peek-a-boo shoes. I had to admit, they both looked great. But what the hell were they doing in Kirby City? I decided to ignore them and keep walking, but it was too late. They’d spotted me.

“Beth…hey Beth. It’s so good to see you,” Diane called out.

Reluctantly, I walked over towards them. “Hi Diane. Hi Sandy,” I replied. “I…I was just leaving.”

“Leaving? Why?” Sandy asked, grabbing something from a plate on the bar in front of them and dipping it in the sauce next to it. “The night is young,” she said, popping it in her mouth. “Yum, these appetizers are delish—baked cheese wedges with warm, red currant sauce. Have you tried them?”

“No…I haven’t.” I wanted to leave but I couldn’t resist asking. “Wha—what are you guys doing in Kirby City?”

Diane pursed her lips. “Oh, come on, really, Beth? Word gets around fast. Everybody at Goliath knows about Carrie and Jenna finding sexy shifter mates from Kirby City with that ‘Curvy Girls’ club you are in. Carrie even found two of them!”

Sandy pouted. “Diane and I want hot ‘n sexy mates too…but we know we’d be disqualified from joining your little club.
